What is On Bike Share for Automated Rentals?On Bike Share offers the ability for bike shops, bike rental companies and independent operators to own and manage their own bike share program. You can install bikes where you need them (with permission of course), set your rental rates and collect 100% of the proceeds.
How Do I set Rental Rates? Our Rental Rate Module lets you set rates, the times, and the amount you want to charge. We do not set the rates. Deciding how much to set varies by area based on location, target audience, season, and competitive options. This is why we encourage you to do your homework and see what options are already out there. How Durable Are Your Bikes from Weather and Sun? Our bicycles are made with premium components specifically chosen to last longer and look nicer than other bikes. This includes weather-sealed Shimano internal gearing, so all the gearing is protected and lifetime lubricated inside the rear hub (no maintenance!). The frame and all components - rims, handlebar, stem, seat post, etc are all aluminum (no rust!). We also use rust-buster chains that are coated to reduce rust. And everything on the bike is powder-coated which is more durable than paint. Since we have been in the bike business for 20 years, we know what makes a bike last. Are these Electric Bikes?No, our premium bicycles are traditional pedal bikes -- not e-bikes. Pedal bikes are less expensive, less maintenance, less liability and safer than e-bikes. If you are new to running a bike share or bike rental business, and/or not a bike mechanic, e-bikes will add significant levels of risk and operational complexity to your business.
Where Can I Install the Bike Racks?If the best locations for your bike share/rental program are on public land, you will need to check with your city/town adminstration about licensing and permitting for these locations. You may also want to check with private property owners who may see the bikes as a way to bring more traffic to there location - such as parking lot operators, restaurants, etc.
How are the bikes maintained?You own the bikes, so you maintain them. But the good news is that our bikes require significantly less maintenance than many other bikes. Part of this is due to the Shimano internal gearing which eliminates gear adjustments and tune-ups. If you are tempted to pay someone else to maintain your bikes, be sure to built this into your business plan. This may be one of your highest operating expenses, so by servicing your own bikes, it is also the best way to retain your profits.
What if Someone Steals a Bike?The bikes are not GPS tracked. If you want to track the bikes we recommend Apple AirTags -- they are inexpensive, discrete, easy to use, and have a long battery life. We don't tend to recommend GPS because GPS devices are expensive, require a monthly subscription, have a limited range, and a short battery life -- so they add operational complexity to the system. With this said, if someone steals the bike, you do have their name, phone #, email address and credit card, so you have the right to pursue both legal and financial recourse.
